Faulkner University
Faulkner University offers numerous Speech Language Pathology options
On-ground: Master of Science and Master of Arts in Speech Language Pathology
Online: Master of Arts in Speech Language Pathology (planned for Aug 2022)
These programs are designed for students seeking national certification with the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and state licensure to practice as a speech language pathologist. Each program has dedicated faculty that work to help students become competent SLPs, as well as compassionate SLPs that see their career as a ministry to each patient they encounter.
On-Ground Program
The on-ground MA SLP and MS SLP program is five (5) semesters of academic coursework, clinical practice, and internships.
Year 1 (fall, spring, and summer semesters): on-ground students take 4 academic classes and see patients in the Clinic in Montgomery, Alabama. This takes place in our new College of Health Sciences facility! This building offers 85,000 sq. ft. of space, which includes classrooms, a multidisciplinary clinic, study rooms, simulation labs, anatomy labs, computer lab each of which contains state of the art technology. This growth and expansion are the most exciting aspects of our on-ground program, which affords the opportunity to learn in an environment that fosters Interprofessional Education with our growing programs in the college of Health Sciences- PT, OT, and PA. At the end of summer semester, students on the MA track take their Comprehensive Exams.
Year 2 (fall and spring semesters): students complete two internships (one with pediatrics and the other with adults) at a hospital, medical center, clinic, nursing home or school anywhere in the country. Students may be able to move back to their hometown, or another location, to complete the internships. The student also completes their EBP portfolio (MA track) or thesis (MS track) while in their final two semesters.
Online Program
The online MA SLP program, set to launch this upcoming Fall 2022, is structured much like the on-ground program described above, offering the same curriculum in the same sequence, but can be completed from anywhere in the country. Students do not have to move to Montgomery, Alabama.
Year 1 (fall, spring, and summer semesters): Online students take 4 classes per semester, and online classes are both asynchronous (recorded lectures) and synchronous (live classes). Online students also complete some Simucases and a few clinical hours in a hospital, school, nursing home, or clinic near their home each week in year 1. Online students are required to come to Montgomery, Alabama for a 1 week on-ground intensive in summer semester at the end of the first year, during which their Comprehensive Exam will be administered and clinical skills will be practiced.
Year 2 (fall and spring semesters): students complete two internships (one with pediatrics and the other with adults) at a hospital, medical center, clinic, nursing home or school anywhere in the country. Students can do these internships at a hospital, school, nursing home, or clinic near their home. The student also completes their EBP portfolio (MA track).
